The website www.hestar847.is was formally opened on the 8th of December 2000 by Gudni Agustsson Minister of Agriculture at Ingholl, Selfoss. The goal of the website is to be the leading service and information website for riders and people interested in horsemanship, either in this country or abroad.
In the year 2004 Hestar847 introduced a new web solution that includes children’s website, teenager’s website and a special website where people can send in their poetry relating to horsemanship. The children’s website and the teenager’s website of 847 is a great inspiration for this group of horse people and the intention is to have diverse discussions on upcoming events in children’s and teenager’s divisions of the horse clubs.
By this 847 is divided into three main groups, i.e. main website, children’s website and the teenager’s website. Also latest news regarding agriculture can be read on 847 which is a novelty.
847 operates a news department, an advertising department, a producing department and a marketing department.
847 will also operate 8 foreign websites that will look just like the Icelandic main website. The foreign websites will be independently operated by parties in each country that finally makes it possible for Icelandic people to observe local news relating to Icelandic horsemanship in foreign countries. Also news, advertisements, gossip and all other material will be in the relevant language of each country.
The name 847 is as most people know derived from the total grade of the stallion Dynur from Hvammur which was the highest judged stallion in Iceland of 4 gated horses category in the year 2000. Thordur Thorgeirsson, the rider of Dynur from Hvammur has now broken that record almost annually since, on other stallions.
Hjortur Hjartarson designed the prototype of the logo which was then finished by Daniel Ben who owns and operates 847.
The name Hestar847 has in day to day language shortened to 847 and that is why we have linked together two domains, i.e www.hestar847.is and www.847.is , so now either domain can be used for the website.
847 hopes that riders and people interested in horses in Iceland and abroad will use all the service available on the website, which is almost all for free.
